Steamroller Studios Releases Animated Short
Spice Frontier, a new animated short from Steamroller Studios, sets its online release for June 4th, 2020.
The story centers on space explorer Kentucky (Kent) Williams and his cyborg pilot C-LA as they scour the universe for rare earth spices, centuries after the planet’s destruction. The 8-minute short features a fast-paced action sequence aboard The Silent Tide, an abandoned research facility floating in space. The events in the short forecast a few major plot points and introduce the mystery and suspense from Spice Frontier’s broader story. Its compelling characters will have viewers rooting for them from the start.
Spice Frontier’s explosive action, delightful adventure, and out-of-this-world animation have made a splash with audiences of all ages. The short found serious success on the festival circuit after its initial release last year, taking the top prize at Atlanta’s Dragon Con Festival, among others. Now, the Studio is gearing up for its online release next month and hopes to see the short developed into a television series or feature film in the near future.
Steamroller Studios is based in Mount Dora, Florida. They are a tech and animation powerhouse that provides high-end animation and experience design for clients. Their work can be seen across blockbuster films, popular video games—including Fortnite and Mortal Kombat—as well as attractions at some of the world’s largest theme parks. While this is Steamroller’s first release of content developed in-house, they are no strangers to high-end animation and quality storytelling. For Spice Frontier, their artists experimented with a new animation technique, developing 2-dimensional characters and worlds from a 3-D animation process.
The studio is hosting a Facebook Live watch party to celebrate the release, which will be followed by a live Q&A with the creators. Spice Frontier will also be available to view at www.spicefrontiershort.com.
